St Johann – Ellmau – Scheffau in Tirol Austria

THE SKI RESORT SKIWELT WILDER KAISER – BRIXENTAL is really big: 279 km of ski slope, 91 lifts and cable cars including a funicular railway, over 1000 snow machines, and over 70 refreshments stops.

The slopes are spread over mountains starting with Going – Ellmau – Scheffau – Soll – Itter – Hopfgarten – Brixen im Thale. You can get up the mountain at Going and if you are quick by the end of the day you can get down in Brixen im Tale. The slopes offer everything from beginner to advanced well cared slopes to free rides in the most amazing powder snow. The stops have amazing views and serve really good food.

Of course we did not had enough time to use them all, we mainly used Ellmau and Sheffau slopes and lifts. The mountain is relatively low with 2 peaks Brandstadl 1650 m and Hartkaiser 1555 m we mostly ride the slopes from Hartkaiser to Ellmau served by a very fast and comfortable funicular train.

At the bottom of the train you can find a couple of nice afterski

bars with music where you can blow off some steam after a day on the slopes.

Being 16 people we have rented a whole villa in Sankt Johann village next to Ellmau. St Johann is a nice and quiet mountain village, maybe too quiet for our taste. Restaurants don’t serve food passed 9 pm so make sure you eat before that, I guess everyone gets to bed early to be ready for the slopes next morning.
